“Walmiru” was born in Sao Paulo in 1958 where he has lived his entire life. He has been a witness over the decades to abundant change in his country, much of it for the better, but he acknowledges that there is still a long way to go. Regardless, Walmir rejects the notion that Brazil is the Country of the Future, and through his art, he proffers emphatically (albeit through subtle symbolism) that the rising Latin American powerhouse must be considered here and now if the seemingly inexorable march of globalization is to continue on a path to success.
He is a husband and father of three, and in addition to painting, his passion is transforming old vehicles from piles of scrap metal into fire-breathing road monsters. At the helm of these beasts of metal and rubber, he has been driving at high speeds since a very early age.
